'The Cher Show' Will Debut on Broadway Next Fall

September 28, 2017

Let's turn time ahead to the fall of 2018. Yes, "The Cher Show," the musical based on the life and career of Cher will open on Broadway in the fall of 2018.

Back in June, Cher confirmed that the show would hit Broadway at some point next year, but now it's official. The show will open at the Neil Simon Theater next year. Before that, however, it will actually spend a month on a Chicago stage. The show will open for a month at the Oriental Theater on June 12, 2018.

The show will have plenty of Broadway's finest involved in the production. It's been previously reported that Jeffrey Seller (Hamilton) and Flody Suarez (Rise) will produce the show. Jason Moore (Avenue Q and Pitch Perfect) will be directing the show, and Rick Elice (Jersey Boys) will be a writer.

"My life as a musical on Broadway, it seems crazy, exciting and bizarre -- but that's probably how my life seems to most people," Cher said in a statement.

The show, which will cover Cher's six decade career, is expected to feature a number of the super star's hit songs. That means that "Believe," "Turn Back Time," "I Got You Babe," and more will all be performed in the show.

Casting decisions have not been announced, but it looks like three different actresses will be cast to play the 71-year-old singer at various stages of her career.
